OpenAI has appointed Mike Liberatore, former chief financial officer of Elon Musk's xAI, as its new head of business finance.
According to the company, Liberatore will report directly to Chief Financial Officer Sarah Friar and work closely with the team of co-founder Greg Brockman, responsible for managing and expanding the financial aspects of OpenAI's rapidly growing data centers and infrastructure.

Before joining OpenAI, Liberatore served as the chief financial officer at xAI and left the company in July this year. During his tenure at xAI, he helped organize a $10 billion funding round and was responsible for expanding its data center business. Previously, he held important positions at Airbnb.
This personnel appointment comes as OpenAI's business is experiencing rapid growth. The company recently reached a valuation of $500 billion and signed a cloud computing agreement worth up to $300 billion with Oracle. This move highlights that while competing with competitors like xAI for top talent, OpenAI is striving to strengthen its capabilities in AI infrastructure and financial management to support its large-scale expansion plans.
