Have you ever felt a tinge of disappointment while taking a group photo, regretting that you couldn't be in the frame yourself? Or perhaps you were already in the group photo, wishing the photographer could join, only to find it nearly impossible? Well, Google has now addressed this issue.

At this year's Made By Google event, the tech giant unveiled a remarkable new feature—"Add Me". This feature is set to revolutionize the way we take group photos. It's not just a simple selfie solution; it's an innovative technology that seamlessly merges two photos into one perfect image, combining AI and augmented reality.

How Does "Add Me" Work?

To use the "Add Me" feature, the photographer first takes a photo without themselves in it, then another person takes over as the photographer to capture a second photo. Pixel then merges the two images, ensuring everyone is included in one photo, eliminating the need to ask strangers for help.

Sebastian Rodriguez, the Senior Product Marketing Manager for Google Pixel cameras, shared his experience. As a photography enthusiast, he often found himself missing from family photos. But "Add Me" allows him to participate in photography in a straightforward and convenient way.

Of course, the feature does have some minor issues. Foreign media journalist Kimberly Gedeon discovered during her experience that if you make gestures like raising your hand or giving a thumbs-up, the AI struggles to integrate the raised arms into the final composite image, resulting in awkward distortions.

Therefore, to achieve a more satisfactory group photo with the "Add Me" feature, it's best to avoid large movements. From the test results, the "Add Me" feature can generally integrate the "third person" perfectly into the group photo, with the lighting of the second photo matching the original "group" photo very well.
