Apple today announced the launch of a new iMac, featuring the powerful M4 chip and Apple Intelligence, maintaining its stunningly slim design. The new iMac will be available for purchase on Friday, November 8th, starting at $1299.
The M4 chip brings significant performance enhancements to the iMac, offering up to 1.7 times the productivity boost compared to the iMac with the M1 chip, and up to 2.1 times faster speeds for demanding workflows such as photo editing and gaming. The M4 chip is equipped with a more powerful CPU, featuring the world's fastest CPU cores, providing noticeable performance improvements for multitasking and web browsing. Additionally, the M4 chip boasts a robust GPU with Apple's most advanced graphics architecture, enabling smoother handling of more intensive workloads like photo editing and gaming.
Apple Intelligence introduces a new experience to the Mac, bringing artificial intelligence to personal computers. It combines powerful generative models with industry-leading privacy features, leveraging the power of Apple chips and neural network engines to unlock new ways for users to work, communicate, and express themselves on a Mac. System-wide writing tools allow users to optimize text almost anywhere, including rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing. The newly designed Siri enables seamless switching between voice and typed requests, speeding up daily tasks.
The new iMac comes in seven vibrant colors, including green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and the classic silver. The bold color design on the back of the iMac makes it stand out in any space, while the front features a soft tone to keep users focused on their work. Each iMac includes a color-matched Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse or an optional Magic Trackpad, all of which now feature USB-C ports for charging with a single cable.
The 24-inch 4.5K Retina display is one of the most praised features of the iMac, and now for the first time offers a nano-texture glass option, significantly reducing reflections and glare while maintaining excellent image quality. The new 1200-megapixel Center Stage camera supports Desk View, making video calls more engaging. Center Stage keeps everyone perfectly centered in the frame during video calls, ideal for family FaceTime calls.
Desk View utilizes the wide-angle lens to display both the user and their desk from above, which is useful for educators showing lessons to students or creators showcasing their latest DIY projects. Additionally, the iMac features the acclaimed studio-quality three-microphone array with beamforming, and an immersive six-speaker sound system, delivering unparalleled audio and video experiences.
All four USB-C ports on the new iMac support Thunderbolt 4, enabling ultra-fast data transfer, allowing users to connect more accessories such as external storage devices, docks, and up to two external 6K displays, creating a canvas with over 50 million pixels for users to unleash their creativity.
The iMac also supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. With advanced security from Touch ID, users can easily and securely unlock their computer, make online purchases with Apple Pay, and download apps. Additionally, Touch ID supports fast user switching, allowing customers to switch between different user profiles with just a touch of a finger.
macOS Sequoia enhances the new iMac experience with a range of exciting features, including iPhone mirroring, allowing users to interact wirelessly with their iPhone, its apps, and notifications directly from their Mac. The world's fastest browser, Safari, now offers the Highlights feature to quickly extract relevant information from websites; a smarter, redesigned Reader with a table of contents and advanced summaries; and a new video viewer for distraction-free viewing.
With the Distraction Control feature, users can hide content on web pages that might distract them from browsing. The gaming experience is also more immersive, offering personalized spatial audio and Game Mode improvements, along with a range of exciting games, including the upcoming Assassin's Creed: Shadow. Easier window tiling means users can keep organized with the window layout that suits them best.
The new Passwords app conveniently accesses all stored passwords, passkeys, and other credentials in one place. Users can also apply beautiful new built-in backgrounds for video calls, including various color gradients and system wallpapers, or upload their own photos.
The new iMac features an environmentally friendly design, with a stand made from 100% recycled aluminum, and multiple printed circuit boards using 100% recycled gold plating, tin soldering, and copper. The iMac meets Apple's high-efficiency standards, containing no mercury, brominated flame retardants, or polyvinyl chloride. This year's new product is that the iMac's packaging is completely made from fiber-based materials, bringing Apple closer to its goal of eliminating plastic from its packaging by 2025.
Apple Intelligence is now available as a free software update for Mac (with M1 and later chips), and is accessible to users in most regions when the device and Siri language are set to American English. The first set of features is in beta and can be used with macOS Sequoia 15.1, with more features to be released in the coming months.
Apple Intelligence is rapidly adding support for more languages. In December, Apple Intelligence will add localized English support in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK, with extended language support coming in the April software update, and more languages to be supported throughout the year. Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and other languages will all be supported.
