At the recently held 2025 I/O Developer Conference, Google announced a comprehensive upgrade to Android Auto, its in-car system, through its newly launched Gemini AI technology. The core objective of this upgrade is to provide drivers with a more natural and fluid voice interaction experience, allowing them to complete multiple tasks without lifting a finger while driving.

According to reports from tech media outlet Android Central, Google demonstrated a pre-release version of this technology at the conference and conducted a trial on Volvo vehicles. Feedback indicated that Gemini AI performs exceptionally well in natural language processing. Even when users use vague or unclear expressions, it can accurately understand and execute commands. For example, simply saying "Gemini, turn on the defroster" will prompt the system to respond quickly and perform the operation, without needing to touch any physical buttons or screens.

In comparison to traditional voice control systems, Gemini AI has significantly improved intelligence. It not only understands simple commands but also processes complex instructions and engages in subsequent conversations. Drivers can request Gemini to plan driving routes, find restaurants along the way, and even inquire about their operating hours. This user-friendly interaction method makes driving more relaxing for drivers.

Additionally, Gemini's "real-time conversation" feature adds fun to long-distance driving. Drivers can engage in conversations with AI, prepare meeting materials, review exams, or stay alert when tired. Google has also collaborated with car brands like Volvo to integrate the vehicle manual with Gemini, enabling users to easily understand warning light information on the dashboard.

In the future Android automotive ecosystem, Google will offer two modes: "Google built-in" and "compatible with Android Auto." Currently, 250 million cars worldwide support Android Auto, but only models such as Chevrolet, Volvo, and Ford have the "Google built-in" experience. Users with "Google built-in" can directly access entertainment and climate control through the car system without relying on a phone.

It was reported that Android Auto users will be among the first to experience the integration of Gemini, with updates expected to roll out within the next few months. The "Google built-in" experience will launch later this year. The introduction of this technology is bound to transform driving in the future, making smart car usage experiences even better.
