Recently, Microsoft released cumulative security updates KB5058411 for Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server 2025 (24H2) on May 13. Surprisingly, the size of this update package reached a massive 4368.9 MB, far exceeding last month's update package KB5059087, which was 800 MB.

According to reports from technology media Borncity, some users used the 7-Zip tool to extract the update package, revealing that only about 850 MB of the files were related to regular security updates, while the remaining approximately 3 GB of files were associated with Microsoft's artificial intelligence (AI) applications. This huge volume of AI-related files has sparked extensive discussions and doubts among netizens.

Microsoft officials stated that these AI-related files are mainly prepared for Windows 11 AI+ PCs to install and update relevant AI functions. However, this update package has also been pushed to Windows Server 2025, where server environments typically do not require AI functionality. As a result, many users expressed confusion regarding Microsoft's update distribution strategy.

It is worth noting that in November 2021, Microsoft promised to optimize the size of cumulative updates for Windows 10 to reduce download and installation time, mentioning that they would enhance update efficiency and security by periodically retiring old update files. However, this approach of packaging large-scale AI files within all system updates seems to contradict their previous commitments.

In response to this situation, netizens have voiced their dissatisfaction with Microsoft's update strategy on social media. Some users pointed out that such updates not only increase download time but also impose a burden on user storage space. This phenomenon has also sparked anticipation and attention towards Microsoft's future update strategies.

In summary, Microsoft's latest update undoubtedly demonstrates ambition in introducing new technologies and features, but the accompanying large size has caused considerable inconvenience for users. In the future, finding a balance between technological innovation and user experience will be a serious consideration for Microsoft.
