Recently, the Midea Health Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Alibaba's DAMO Academy in Shanghai. The two parties will cooperate to explore the use of DAMO Academy's developed "one-scan-multiple-detection" medical AI technology for the screening of various major diseases including cancer and chronic diseases. They will also cooperate in areas such as intelligent health examination services. Yu Rong, chairman of Midea Health Group, and Zhang Jianfeng, dean of the DAMO Academy, attended and witnessed the signing.
As introduced, DAMO Academy's pioneering "one-scan-multiple-detection" AI technology can identify multiple lesions that are difficult for the human eye to detect through one CT scan. It has been applied to various cancers (such as pancreatic cancer, esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, colorectal cancer, liver cancer), chronic diseases (such as osteoporosis, fatty liver), and acute aortic syndromes. Especially in the screening of pancreatic cancer, which has a high mortality rate, the sensitivity and specificity of the DAMO Academy AI model reach 92.9% and 99.9%, respectively. It was evaluated by Nature Medicine as having the potential to open a new era in AI cancer screening in imaging.
Previously, this technology had collaborated with several top-tier hospitals for scientific research and worked with the WHO Digital Health Collaboration Center to promote it to developing countries. This cooperation with Midea Health marks the first application validation of multi-cancer screening AI technology in the health examination scenario. Joint tests show that DAMO Academy's AI still demonstrates precise recognition capabilities on low-dose chest CT images commonly used in health examination institutions, achieving leading industry standards. It is expected to cover a wider range of asymptomatic populations, enabling early disease screening.
Yu Rong, chairman of Midea Health, said that the group will actively embrace AI technology to improve diagnostic efficiency and accuracy, meet more personalized health needs, and look forward to innovative cooperation with the DAMO Academy to bring more medical AI products to users.
