Microsoft recently announced the introduction of a new AI writing feature in Notepad, designed to help users write text more quickly. This feature is currently being tested in the latest update for Windows 11 and is only available to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev channels, specifically for PCs equipped with Copilot Plus.

According to the Windows Insider blog, the new "writing" function in Notepad can quickly generate text based on user prompts or expand existing content. Users can right-click at the desired position to insert new text or operate after selecting existing text. After selecting the "writing" function, a prompt box will appear where users can input instructions. The generated text will automatically be inserted into the document, and users can choose to keep it, discard it, or optimize it further using subsequent instructions.

This new feature is the third AI-driven tool that Microsoft is testing in Notepad. Prior to this, Microsoft also introduced the "summary" function, which generates summaries of document content, as well as the "rewrite" function, allowing users to adjust the tone, length, or rephrase sentences in the text.

In addition to updates to Notepad, Microsoft has also introduced some new AI features in the image processing software Paint. The new sticker generator allows users to describe their desired stickers, and Paint will generate a set of stickers based on the description for the user to use. Additionally, Paint will receive a new object selection tool that uses AI technology for intelligent selection, simplifying the process of extracting specific elements from photos or paintings.

The screenshot tool in Windows 11 has also been updated, adding a "perfect screenshot" button. When users use the rectangular tool to select a screenshot, AI will intelligently adjust the size of the selection area to better match the selected content. At the same time, the screenshot tool introduces a new color picker, allowing users to view color values in real-time, helping them perform more precise image editing.

To use the new writing feature in Notepad, users need to log in to their Microsoft account, and this feature will adopt the same credit system as other AI-driven Windows 11 features. Microsoft has not yet disclosed whether these credits will incur charges in the future or what the pricing scheme will be.
