Microsoft has recently introduced a series of exciting generative AI features in its Windows 11 operating system for Paint, Snipping Tool, and Notepad. These features are currently being tested by Windows Insider users in the Canary and Dev channels, but some functions require computers that support Copilot.
Firstly, in the Paint application, users can generate custom stickers by entering prompts. Simply click the "Sticker Generator" button in the Copilot menu, enter the desired sticker description (e.g., "a monkey in a suit"), and then click the generate button. Paint will generate a series of unique stickers based on your prompt. Additionally, users can find recently generated stickers in the new "Stickers" option in the Paint toolbar. It is worth noting that Paint has also added other generative AI features, including layer processing, background removal, and generation erasure, which are available to all users.
Next, the Snipping Tool has also received new functionality. The "Perfect Snip" feature automatically adjusts the size of the screenshot based on the selected content. Users just need to press and hold the Ctrl key after activating the snipping tool to select the screen area they want to capture. Note that the Perfect Snip feature is also limited to devices that support Copilot.
Finally, the Notepad application has also introduced generative AI capabilities. Users can insert new content at the cursor position by entering prompts. Simply right-click and choose "Writing," or use the Ctrl + Q shortcut to access the dialog box for generating AI content. After inputting instructions, the AI-generated content will be displayed directly in the document, and users can choose to keep or discard this text. If needed, further prompts can be used to refine and evolve drafts. This feature requires users to have either a Microsoft 365 or Copilot Pro subscription and sufficient AI credits.
Although these new features from Microsoft may seem small, as CEO Satya Nadella mentioned at the recent Build conference, more exciting AI tools will be released in the future. The technology industry is experiencing another platform transformation.
