The China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) officially released its latest Kunlun large model with 300 billion parameters in Beijing. This major achievement marks another significant breakthrough in China's large model technology field, demonstrating the rapid development and innovative capabilities of central enterprises in the artificial intelligence sector.
The new Kunlun large model has made remarkable improvements compared to the 700-billion-parameter version released in November 2024. The language model's parameters have increased from 700 billion to 3000 billion, the vision model's parameters have risen from 300 million to 4.4 billion, and the multimodal model's parameters have grown from 1.6 billion to 8 billion. Additionally, specialized large models are continuously being iterated and improved, achieving progress in fields such as exploration, code development, procurement, and production safety.
As early as May last year, CNPC established partnerships with China Mobile, Huawei, and iFlytek to jointly promote the development of the Kunlun large model, and launched an early version with 700 billion parameters in November of the same year. The Kunlun large model is the first large model registered in the energy and chemical industries in China, marking an important step in the digital transformation of the industry.
Qiao Hui emphasized that the application scope of the Kunlun large model covers the entire industrial chain from oil and gas exploration and development to refining and chemical engineering, as well as equipment manufacturing. In the field of oil and gas exploration and development, this model significantly improves the efficiency of solving the wave equation through intelligent full waveform inversion technology, increasing the efficiency of the forward and inverse process by more than ten times. In the refining and chemical engineering sector, the Kunlun large model helps optimize the operation of ethane-to-ethylene processes and accelerates the handling of equipment failures. Moreover, the model is also applied in the sales sector, integrated into the gas station management system, capable of responding to employee and customer needs 24 hours a day.
