Microsoft Bing officially launched a brand-new "Bing Video Creator" this Monday. This feature is based on OpenAI's Sora model, marking the first free availability of video generation capabilities, allowing ordinary users to easily generate videos through text prompts.

The release of the Bing Video Creator enables users to create their own short videos with simple text descriptions. It’s worth noting that this function currently only supports mobile devices and has not yet been released for desktop use. This limitation may inconvenience many users accustomed to operating on larger screens. Additionally, the speed of video generation has drawn some attention. Although Microsoft offers a "quick" mode, generating a video can still take several hours rather than the expected minutes, which might cause anxiety for users eager to share their videos.

After logging in with a Microsoft account, users can create 10 video clips for free, but after exceeding this number, each additional video segment will require 100 Microsoft Points. Users can earn points by conducting regular Bing searches or shopping at the Microsoft Store; for example, each PC search earns 5 points, with a maximum daily accumulation of 150 points. This mechanism not only encourages users to actively utilize Bing searches but also provides incentives for video creation.

In terms of video generation, users can queue up to three 5-second video segments at a time, with the video format set as vertical 9:16, which is ideal for sharing on social platforms like TikTok and Instagram. However, Microsoft has promised future expansion to include horizontal video generation to meet the needs of more users.

The launch of the Bing Video Creator offers users a new way to create content, enabling non-professionals to become content creators with the help of AI. This innovation enriches the content ecosystem of social media platforms and adds new appeal to Microsoft's services.
