Microsoft announced in its official blog that it will integrate an artificial intelligence assistant named Athena into the Teams application, aiming to optimize the product development process. The source code for Athena is open-source and hosted on the GitHub platform, allowing various organizations and individuals to customize and use it.

At Microsoft's 2025 Build Developer Conference, Athena's powerful features were first showcased. The biggest feature of this AI assistant is its ability to intelligently identify the next steps for the team, helping users complete tasks directly within Teams, thus avoiding the inconvenience of frequently switching between different applications.

Athena can handle repetitive tasks such as code reviews, work item management, and security checks, enabling developers to focus more on innovation and feature development. At the same time, for product managers and engineering leaders, Athena provides real-time project status updates, helping them determine if a product is ready for release, ensuring consistency in team goals. Regardless of the size of the enterprise, Athena's open-source nature can meet different needs, further accelerating delivery cycles and improving code quality.

Microsoft stated that Athena has already been deployed among more than 2,000 engineers internally, significantly enhancing development speed and quality, allowing teams to focus more on core functionality development. By accelerating code reviews, Athena can also detect critical vulnerabilities that may affect releases early on, ensuring necessary security and privacy processes are completed before release and providing a health assessment of software delivery.

In addition, the launch of Athena has freed up developers' hands, giving them more time and energy to develop new features while shortening product delivery times and reducing potential user issues. Through Athena, Microsoft hopes to help teams improve their work efficiency and achieve better product delivery.
