Recently, a new artificial intelligence (AI) initiative by the Trump administration has attracted significant attention. The plan aims to promote the application of AI technology across the entire federal government. A code repository named "AI.gov" was discovered on GitHub, although the page quickly disappeared after we inquired, we successfully captured backup information.

According to the backup materials, the General Services Administration (GSA) and its Technology Transformation Services (TTS) team are developing a website named "AI.gov" as a core platform for government departments to start integrating AI operations. Thomas Shedd, head of TTS, has made AI his top priority since taking office at the end of January this year. It is reported that he hopes GSA can operate like a software startup and has proposed a strategy of "AI-first across the government," aiming to automate many tasks currently performed by federal employees.
Based on the preliminary design of AI.gov, the project consists of three main components: a chatbot, an "all-purpose API," and a tool called "CONSOLE." The chatbot will provide various functions, while the "all-purpose API" allows different agencies to connect their systems to models from companies such as OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. Notably, "CONSOLE" will be used to monitor AI usage in real time across agencies, helping managers understand which tools employees use and their preferences.
In addition, AI.gov is collaborating with suppliers certified under the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP). According to the API documentation on the GitHub page, AI.gov will offer AI models through Amazon Bedrock. Although it includes a company called Cohere, it seems that Cohere has not yet received FedRAMP certification.
Despite the frequent mention of AI applications by the Trump administration recently, experts have expressed concerns about the widespread adoption of this plan, fearing potential security risks as AI systems may handle confidential data and personal information related to citizens.
We attempted to contact staff members involved in the implementation of AI.gov and Shedd for more information but did not receive a response. Instead, the project's code repository was quickly shut down.
