At CVPR 2025, one of the top conferences in the field of computer vision, Tencent announced the open-source release of the Hunyuan 3D 2.1 large model, marking the first full-chain open-source industrial-grade 3D generation large model, which leads the industry.

The download volume of the Hunyuan 3D model on the well-known open-source community and technology platform Hugging Face has exceeded 1.8 million, gaining global developer recognition. The upgraded Hunyuan 3D 2.1 model shows significant improvements in its effects. After uploading an image of a jewelry box, the generated 3D jewelry box features clear textures, delicate quality, and consistent lighting. In fields such as gaming, movies, and online shopping malls, the new model can generate 3D versions of characters, props, and product models.

Compared to Hunyuan 3D 2.0, the new model optimizes geometric generation quality and also opens up a PBR material generation large model, enhancing the texture and lighting representation of 3D assets, eliminating the "plastic feel." Geometry is like the "skeleton" of a 3D model, determining form, outline, and detail precision; textures are like the "skin," reproducing surface colors, luster, and details. The new model optimizes detail modeling with higher mesh precision and better topology consistency, providing a foundation for basic texture mapping and enabling the generation of various maps to support high-quality rendering of complex materials.

PBR technology improves visual consistency under different lighting conditions by simulating the physical interaction between light and materials. In user blind tests, the PBR texture quality of the Hunyuan 3D 2.1 model achieved a win rate of 78%. This physical realism meets the high-rendering requirements of film and games while providing reliable 3D assets for industrial design, virtual simulation, and digital twins, balancing aesthetics and practicality.

Besides performance upgrades, the development threshold has also been lowered. The full-chain open-source Hunyuan 3D 2.1 model covers model weights, training code, and data processing workflows, allowing developers to freely fine-tune, retrain, or optimize for customized needs, and providing a platform for academic research. At the same time, the model is deployment-friendly, compatible with consumer-grade GPUs, and can run on personal computers.
