Artificial intelligence giant OpenAI is collaborating with one of the largest teacher unions in the United States, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), to launch a groundbreaking initiative called the "National AI Teaching Academy." This five-year project aims to train 400,000 teachers across the country, helping them effectively utilize artificial intelligence technology in the classroom.
OpenAI has invested $10 million in this project, including $8 million in direct funding and $2 million in technical support. The core goal of the academy is to help teachers seamlessly integrate artificial intelligence into daily teaching, with particular emphasis on supporting underserved school districts.
This collaboration has also received strong support from other key partners, including Microsoft and Anthropic. The first training center is currently being built in New York City, and more training centers are planned to be established by 2030, covering a broader range of regions.
Teachers participating in the program will have the opportunity to attend rich workshops, flexible online courses, and practical training sessions. In addition, they will gain priority access to OpenAI tools, technical support, and resources for developing custom AI classroom applications.
This collaboration marks a major leap forward for artificial intelligence in the education sector, promising to bring more innovative and personalized learning experiences to students nationwide by empowering teachers.
