Meta has confirmed the acquisition of Play AI, a startup focused on using artificial intelligence to generate human voices. This move will further strengthen Meta's presence in the AI field, particularly in its growing AI roles, Meta AI, wearables, and audio content creation projects.
According to Bloomberg, a Meta spokesperson confirmed the acquisition. An internal memo showed that all members of the Play AI team will officially join Meta next week.
The internal memo stated that Play AI's work in "creating natural sounds and a platform that makes it easy to create sounds" aligns closely with Meta's roadmap in several key AI areas. This includes AI roles, Meta AI, wearables, and audio content creation, which Meta is heavily investing in.
This acquisition is the latest move in Meta's series of large-scale investments in the field of artificial intelligence. Previously, Meta actively recruited talent from OpenAI and reached an agreement with Scale AI, with Scale AI's CEO Alexandr Wang joining Meta to lead a new team focused on superintelligence.
The financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed. Bloomberg previously reported that the two companies were in talks for the acquisition.
