Recently, tech giant Meta is actively expanding its artificial intelligence team by establishing a new department called "Superintelligence Labs," aiming to promote the development of foundational models. According to internal sources, the laboratory has already successfully recruited 44 top talents. Notably, about half of the employees are from China, and 40% of the staff previously worked at OpenAI.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is known for his generous investment style. He once invested $46 billion in the metaverse project, but due to not meeting expectations, he has now shifted his focus to the field of artificial intelligence. Meta hopes to seize the high ground in the AI market through large-scale recruitment. Recently, Meta has successfully poached talent from well-known companies such as OpenAI and Apple, and even offered a signing bonus of up to $200 million when recruiting the head of Apple's foundational model. Despite this, Meta is not always able to reach such salary levels, and some new employees' signing bonuses have not reached $100 million.
In the newly recruited employees, 75% hold doctorates, and 70% are researchers. Their backgrounds are very diverse. In addition to 50% coming from China, 40% come from OpenAI, 20% from Google's DeepMind, and 15% from Scale company. This diverse talent structure will inject new vitality into Meta's AI research and development.
Notably, most of these new employees have not yet worked at Meta for a month, and their annual salaries may range from $10 million to $100 million, although the exact amount has not been officially confirmed. This recruitment dynamic demonstrates Meta's ambition in the AI field and also means the intensification of competition for industry talent.
