Recently, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, announced on social media that the company plans to launch more than 1 million GPUs by the end of 2025. This goal not only demonstrates OpenAI's ambitious aspirations in the field of artificial intelligence, but also introduces for the first time the "Hundredfold Expansion" technological vision, aiming to further advance AI technology.

OpenAI

Currently, OpenAI is at a critical stage in the global competition for AI infrastructure, involving multiple core areas such as the Stargate project, chip supply chain restructuring, and energy challenges. Stargate is a newly established company under OpenAI, which will invest up to $50 billion (approximately 359 billion RMB) over the next four years, aiming to build a new artificial intelligence infrastructure for the United States.

The first engineering project of the Stargate will be located in Abilene, Texas, covering an area of 1,000 acres, with the goal of building the world's largest AI training cluster. The initial investors include SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, and MGX, with SoftBank and OpenAI being the main partners of the project. According to the introduction, Masayoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank, will serve as Chairman of Stargate, responsible for the overall financial operations of the project, while OpenAI will be in charge of daily operations.

Notably, the technology partners of Stargate include industry giants such as Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Oracle. These companies will provide the necessary technical support for Stargate to ensure the smooth progress of the project.

This move is widely regarded by the industry as an important strategy for OpenAI in its global layout of artificial intelligence infrastructure, showing its potential advantages in future technological competition. With the large-scale deployment of GPUs, OpenAI hopes to accelerate the development of AI technology and enhance its leadership position in the industry.
