Microsoft is integrating its AI assistant Xbox Copilot into the game bar of Windows 11, aiming to provide players with a smarter and more convenient gaming experience. Currently, Xbox Insiders members can start testing a preview version of this new feature.
According to Taylor O'Malley, the chief project manager at Xbox, Gaming Copilot can understand the game players are playing and Xbox activities, thereby providing highly personalized assistance. Players can ask Copilot for game tips, check achievements, or view game history. This AI assistant will appear as a widget in the game bar and supports voice mode, allowing players to interact with the AI without interrupting their game.
One of the most impressive features of Gaming Copilot is its ability to answer questions based on players' game screenshots. For example, when a player faces a powerful boss in the game, they just need to ask "What am I looking at?" and Copilot can identify the boss on the screen and provide detailed information and even strategies to defeat it. Microsoft positions it as a "partner" aimed at providing players with tips and information about the game world, rather than a simple Q&A tool. Previously, Microsoft demonstrated Copilot's application in "Overwatch 2," which could recommend suitable heroes based on team configurations.
The early preview version released this time only supports English and is limited to regions such as the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Singapore. Microsoft plans to roll out this feature in other regions later, but the specific time has not been announced. In addition, Microsoft plans to further optimize Gaming Copilot on the upcoming Xbox Ally handheld computer.
