According to the latest analysis from app intelligence provider Appfigures, since its launch in May 2023, OpenAI's ChatGPT mobile app has already reached an astonishing $2 billion in global consumer spending. This revenue figure is 30 times the total lifetime consumer spending of its competitors such as Claude, Copilot, and Grok.

During the period up to 2025, the ChatGPT mobile app has generated $1.35 billion in revenue, compared to only $174 million in the same period in 2024, representing a staggering 673% year-over-year growth. Currently, the average monthly revenue of the ChatGPT app is nearly $193 million, far exceeding the $25 million in the same period last year.

This performance clearly outperforms its competitors. The second-ranked Grok has only generated $25.6 million in revenue this year, which is 53 times less than ChatGPT's revenue. Grok's average monthly consumer spending is also only $3.6 million, accounting for just 1.9% of ChatGPT's.

Although these figures do not fully reflect the overall revenue situation of AI companies, they do provide an important perspective on the popularity of these apps among consumers. Notably, when Grok was launched in November 2023, it did not have a standalone iOS or Android app, and users could only interact with it through the X platform. It wasn't until January 2025 that Grok offered services on mobile devices through a standalone app.

Looking at single-download spending, the lifetime global single-download spending for ChatGPT is $2.91, while it is $2.55 for Claude, $0.75 for Grok, and only $0.28 for Copilot. In the U.S. market, the single-download spending for ChatGPT reaches as high as $10, with the U.S. market accounting for 38% of the app's total revenue. Germany follows closely, accounting for 5.3%.

In terms of download volume, ChatGPT's advantage is also significant. It has been downloaded approximately 690 million times globally, while Grok's installation count is only 39.5 million. This also provides context for Elon Musk's recent comments about App Store favoritism toward ChatGPT. In 2025, ChatGPT's average monthly downloads reached 45 million, an 180% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

As of 2025, the ChatGPT app has been downloaded 318 million times, compared to 113 million downloads during the same period last year. In terms of installation numbers, India is the largest market, accounting for 13.7% of the total downloads, followed by the United States at 10.3%.
