Anthropic announced that Claude Code is now included in its team and enterprise subscription services, and launched a new compliance API. This update marks a strategic shift for Anthropic in developer tools, transforming Claude Code from an independent tool into an enterprise-focused component of the Claude suite.
Claude Code aims to extend Claude's conversational capabilities into development workflows. By including it in team and enterprise plans, Anthionic provides a smoother path from creative to production code, allowing developers to avoid switching products or accounts. The newly introduced compliance API offers programmatic access for IT and security leaders, enabling them to easily track usage and content metrics, thereby enforcing governance and monitoring AI-assisted coding in large teams.
In the summer of 2025, the number of Claude Code users grew rapidly, with a growth rate exceeding 300%. This surge prompted Anthropic to introduce monitoring dashboards and usage limits to manage activity. At this time, enterprise teams were using Claude Code throughout the day, sometimes exceeding the capacity of fixed-price plans. The launch of the analytics dashboard and compliance API was aimed at addressing this pressure, providing administrators with a way to track behavior and take action before issues escalate.
When Anthropic launched the Claude Enterprise version in September 2024, it already included features such as single sign-on, domain capture, GitHub integration, and audit logs. The company also expanded the context window to 500,000 tokens to support more complex workloads. The inclusion of Claude Code further strengthens this foundation, making security reviews, code audits, and compliance tracking inherent parts of the Claude environment.
At the same time, Anthropic's decision comes amid competitors accelerating the release of developer products. OpenAI has gained an advantage through its GitHub Copilot (based on GPT-4) integrated into Microsoft 365 and Visual Studio Code. Google launched Gemini Code Assist this year and deeply integrated it with Google Cloud and Workspace. Microsoft has also started bundling Copilot into enterprise licenses, offering it as the default option.
Differing from competitors who emphasize productivity and integration, Anthropic focuses on governance. The addition of the compliance API, usage dashboard, and security review commands indicates that the company believes enterprises will prioritize control and audit capabilities rather than just coding speed. This approach helps Anthropic carve out a unique market share in highly regulated industries.
Anthropic's enterprise-first strategy is also reflected in its broader market positioning. The startup has received significant support from Amazon and Google, which have invested billions of dollars in incorporating Claude into their cloud ecosystems.
By 2025, Anthropic had expanded Claude's context window to 1 million tokens and launched specialized agents such as Claude Code and Claude Artifacts. A continuous focus on compliance hooks, dashboards, and security reviews shows that Anthropic differs from OpenAI's consumer-centric model. While competitors compete in the consumer chatbot market, Anthropic aims to win the favor of CIOs, CISOs, and compliance officers who want to ensure safety and control while scaling AI use.
