Google recently announced that it will provide its latest Gemini artificial intelligence tool to U.S. federal agencies, almost at zero cost. This news was announced in a joint statement by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), aiming to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence technology by the government. Google CEO Sundar Pichai said: "Gemini for Government provides federal agencies with comprehensive artificial intelligence innovation solutions, helping them achieve important missions."

The Gemini tools are diverse, including the ability to generate videos, images, and creativity, as well as providing digital "assistants" capable of independently handling complex tasks. According to the GSA, federal agencies only need to pay less than one dollar for this service. This cooperation agreement continues from Google's previous efforts to provide Google Workspace software to the government at significant discounts.

Acting Administrator of the GSA, Michael Rigas, stated: "Federal agencies can now significantly change their operations by using the tools in Gemini for Government." The timing of this collaboration also coincides with OpenAI's recent announcement of a one-year partnership with the U.S. government, allowing the government to use the enterprise version of ChatGPT for just one dollar.

OpenAI stated in its blog: "By providing government employees with powerful and secure artificial intelligence tools, we can help them solve problems faster and serve more people." In addition, earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Defense awarded OpenAI a $200 million contract to apply generative AI technology to military work, helping improve administrative operations, such as military healthcare issues, and also aiding in cybersecurity.

Google's move is undoubtedly part of its continued competition with rivals in the field of artificial intelligence, while also demonstrating the government's determination to promote digital transformation. As artificial intelligence technology continues to advance, these advanced technologies will be increasingly seen in government operations and services in the future.
