According to reports, Meta is planning to establish a new super political action committee (PAC) aimed at supporting California candidates who advocate for relaxed artificial intelligence (AI) regulations. This announcement comes as other Silicon Valley giants, such as Andreessen Horowitz and Greg Brockman from OpenAI, have jointly committed $100 million in funding for a new AI-supporting super PAC.

It is reported that Meta will invest tens of millions of dollars in its newly established PAC, "Mobilizing Economic Transformation Across California." Brian Rice, Meta's vice president of public policy and head of the new PAC, stated that the regulatory environment in Sacramento could stifle innovation, hinder AI progress, and threaten California's leadership in the tech industry.

Earlier this year, Meta's lobbying efforts intervened against California State Senator Scott Wiener's SB-53 bill, which would require AI companies to disclose safety and security protocols and issue reports in case of security incidents. Last year, Meta also helped block the highly anticipated Children's Online Safety Act.

Meta has already donated to candidates from various parties, and the establishment of this new PAC indicates its intention to influence state-level elections, including the 2026 gubernatorial election.
