Microsoft is making significant investments to enhance its server capabilities for training autonomous AI models. This move marks an important development in Microsoft's artificial intelligence field, especially based on their recently launched MAI-1-preview model.
Mustafa Suleiman, head of Microsoft AI, stated in an internal company meeting that Microsoft is making "significant investments" for future cutting-edge models. He noted, "We should have the ability to build world-class cutting-edge models internally, covering models of all sizes, but also rationally use other models when necessary." This strategy shows Microsoft's determination to compete with companies like Meta, Google, and xAI in the AI field.
It is reported that Microsoft is currently building its own computing cluster. Currently, the MAI-1-preview model is only trained on 15,000 H100 GPUs, which is still relatively small in scale. Suleiman mentioned that the scale of the model cluster Microsoft plans to train will be "six to ten times" the current size, to enhance its strength in AI research and development. He said, "There is still a lot of work to be done, but taking the first step is good."
During the same meeting, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also expressed his expectations for the construction of future model capabilities. He emphasized that Microsoft will "absolutely support the application of multiple models" and used GitHub Copilot as an example to illustrate the success of this strategy.
In addition, Microsoft plans to introduce Anthropic's AI models in the upcoming Microsoft 365. According to the Information Times, Microsoft 365 Copilot will "partially be driven by Anthropic models," as these models outperform OpenAI in Excel and PowerPoint performance. This indicates that Microsoft is actively exploring various collaborations to enhance the intelligence level of its products.
