Microsoft has officially launched a new AI assistant called "Channel Agent," which is now available in public preview in Microsoft Teams on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and the web version. The launch of Channel Agent aims to improve team collaboration efficiency and help users manage projects and tasks more intelligently.

Each new channel will be equipped with an intelligent assistant named after the channel. This assistant can not only generate structured Loop reports but also answer questions for team members using meeting records and Planner task data. With Channel Agent, team members can easily record and track the progress of tasks and effortlessly draft and schedule meetings.

Using Channel Agent is very simple. Users just need to select the "Add People, Bots, and Robots" menu within the channel, then click "Add Bots and Robots" to confirm and create an assistant named after the channel. At the same time, existing bots can also be added to the conversation in the same way and removed as needed. This way, Channel Agent can work efficiently within the channel and can also be invited into meetings and group chats, becoming a multi-functional support tool for team communication and project management.

Although Channel Agent has many advantages, there are some limitations in its use. The assistant can only be used within its assigned channel and cannot participate in private chats. In addition, meeting access is limited to members who have full chat history, and the organizer's permissions still apply. Furthermore, to fully utilize all the features of Channel Agent, users need to have a Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription. However, even without a subscription, users can still view the responses generated by the assistant.
