SAP CEO Christian Klein said at the launch: "What truly creates value is applied artificial intelligence. We are a commercial AI company with decades of experience serving the public sector. We believe 'OpenAI for Germany' will be an important milestone in AI application. We will combine SAP's expertise in sovereign cloud with OpenAI's advanced AI technology to jointly develop AI solutions tailored specifically for Germany." It is expected that the project will officially launch by 2026, allowing millions of public sector employees to improve their work efficiency through AI.
In addition, this collaboration will also promote the development of customized AI applications for public tasks, such as automated record management and administrative data analysis. To support related AI projects, SAP plans to significantly expand local cloud infrastructure in Germany and enhance computing power.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, also expressed his expectations for the project, stating: "Germany has always been at the forefront in engineering and technology. Millions of Germans have already used ChatGPT in their daily lives, scientific innovation, and business activities. Through 'OpenAI for Germany', we will work with local partners to extend this potential to the public sector, improve public services, and ensure that the benefits of AI can be enjoyed by society as a whole, in line with Germany's values of trust and security."
This collaboration will also support Germany's AI economic goals. Germany hopes that by 2030, the contribution of AI to GDP will increase to 10%. Many companies, including SAP, have committed to investing over 631 billion euros to promote the digitalization of "Made for Germany".
