Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic recently announced that it plans to double its international workforce by 2025 and increase the size of its applied AI team fivefold. This decision aims to strengthen its business in markets outside the United States and further enhance its competitiveness against OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google. With the continuous rise in global demand for the Claude series models, Anthropic is facing a favorable opportunity for growth.

Anthropic, Claude

Currently, the usage of Claude has significantly increased, with nearly 80% of the usage coming from regions outside the United States. In countries such as South Korea, Australia, and Singapore, Claude's penetration rate has exceeded that of the United States. Paul Smith, Chief Commercial Officer of Anthropic, stated that the company's international business growth has exceeded expectations, especially with a rapid increase in customer demand in the life sciences and wealth management sectors. For example, Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk significantly shortened the analysis and reporting cycle for drug development using Claude, from three months to just a few days.

To respond to international market demands, Anthropic is accelerating its hiring efforts and plans to recruit regional managers in markets such as India, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, and Singapore. Additionally, Anthropic will open its first office in Asia in Tokyo and add more than 100 positions in Dublin and London, continuing to expand its business presence in Europe. Chris Chauri, the newly appointed Director General of International Business, stated that many governments and large enterprises are discussing collaborative projects with Anthropic, indicating its market potential.

Anthropic's expansion coincides with the rapid growth of the enterprise-level artificial intelligence market, where the company's annualized revenue has reached $5 billion, a significant increase from $87 million at the beginning of 2024. At the same time, major players such as OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google are also strengthening their international business expansion, increasing market competition. Anthropic clearly states that enterprise customer demand far exceeds traditional "add-on tools," and they are eager to directly use the cutting-edge Claude model.

In terms of application scenarios, Anthropic's technology is helping enterprises in various industries optimize their core business processes. Its customers are no longer limited to simple text summaries but have expanded to areas such as customer service, fraud detection, and complex decision-making. Smith stated that the cooperation between enterprises and Anthropic will be multidimensional, and customers can access its services through multiple platforms. This kind of partnership is complementary rather than competitive.

In the future, Anthropic also plans to establish a comprehensive customer support system to meet the needs of regulated industries and eliminate barriers to technology adoption for enterprises.
