Meta, the social media giant, has announced a major policy change: starting from December 16, 2025, any conversation a user has with Meta AI chatbots through text or voice will be integrated and fed into the company's advertising and content algorithms.
This move means that users' interactions on Meta AI will directly affect the ads, posts, and groups they see across all Meta platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. For example, if a user discusses hiking with the AI, their feed will show more related ads and content.
Meta plans to use this data to enhance the accuracy and relevance of its targeted advertising and content algorithms. However, Meta also emphasized that it will exclude sensitive topics such as religion, health, and political views from the scope of data collection.
How to Limit? Account Association is Key
Meta plans to notify all affected users in advance through notifications and emails. Although users can try to limit the content displayed in their feeds using options such as "Ad Preferences," the effectiveness of these changes is limited to when users have associated all their accounts in the account center.
This new policy is expected to take effect in most regions, marking a further step in Meta's commercialization efforts in utilizing data from its emerging AI tools.
