According to Business Insider, since its launch, ChatGPT developed by OpenAI has continued to set impressive records in user growth within the artificial intelligence field, further solidifying its position as a leading large language model (LLM).
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, announced at the annual DevDay event on Monday that the weekly active users of ChatGPT have increased to 800 million. This number represents an astonishing 700% growth from the 100 million weekly active users announced at the company's first developer conference in November 2023.
Unprecedented Global Adoption
Prior research data has already demonstrated ChatGPT's rapid growth momentum. A paper published last month by OpenAI, Duke University, and Harvard University researchers indicated that as of July this year, ChatGPT's monthly active users reached 700 million, accounting for about 10% of the global adult population.
The paper also revealed that as of July, ChatGPT processes more than 2.5 billion messages per day, equivalent to approximately 29,000 queries per second. Researchers emphasized that such a global adoption speed for a new technology is unprecedented.
Significant Competitive Advantage
In the chatbot market, ChatGPT's user base far exceeds that of its competitors, showing a dominant market advantage. According to reported data, competitors' user numbers are still relatively low: xAI's Grok has 65 million monthly active users, while Claude and Perplexity AI each have 30 million monthly active users.
The latest data for ChatGPT indicates that it has significantly surpassed others in both user base and processing capabilities, becoming the main platform for global users to access artificial intelligence and large language models.
