Walmart has announced a collaboration with OpenAI to provide consumers with a new shopping experience through ChatGPT. Users will be able to purchase Walmart products directly within the ChatGPT chat interface, allowing for one-click ordering and instant checkout, making the shopping process simpler and more efficient.

This feature, called "Agent Shopping," not only helps consumers buy groceries and household essentials but also provides Sam's Club members with the convenience of meal planning and daily essential replenishment. Users just need to link their Walmart account with the ChatGPT app, and by simply clicking the "Buy" button in the chat, they can complete their shopping.

Shopping cart, online shopping

Walmart also stated that this collaboration will make the online shopping experience more personalized, better understanding and predicting consumer needs. This proactive shopping experience means users will no longer passively search for products but can instead receive intelligent recommendations from an AI assistant.

Notably, this new feature is expected to launch this fall and will gradually support products from third-party sellers. This move complements OpenAI's recent strategy to enter the e-commerce sector, as OpenAI is launching a new shopping system with product recommendations and payment functions.

In addition, Walmart recently launched its own developed AI shopping assistant "Sparky," aimed at helping users discover and compare products. In the future, this assistant will also support automatic re-purchasing and service booking features, providing users with a more comprehensive shopping experience.

The collaboration between Walmart and OpenAI is not a one-time action; the two have already laid a foundation for cooperation in other areas. Walmart's internal team is also using OpenAI's training courses and enterprise tools. By using artificial intelligence, Walmart has shortened the fashion product development cycle by up to 18 weeks and improved customer service response efficiency by 40%.

Doug McMillon, President and CEO of Walmart, stated in a statement that the e-commerce shopping experience is undergoing a major transformation. He said, "The AI shopping experience is coming, and it will be multimedia, personalized, and contextual. We are actively embracing this new future."
