Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman revealed that Apple is planning to expand its production scale in Vietnam and will produce three new home devices locally: a central control display, an indoor security camera, and a desktop robot. The central control device and the camera are expected to be released within the next two years, while the robot, which has motors and sensors and can move on its own, is expected to launch in 2027.

According to the report, Apple will collaborate with **BYD (BYD)**, with the latter responsible for assembling, testing, and packaging the new devices. This move shows that Apple is accelerating its shift of production focus to Southeast Asia. Currently, Apple produces some iPad, AirPods, Apple Watch, Mac, and HomePod in Vietnam, and plans to increase local iPad production.

Apple 4

The upcoming home central control device features a 7-inch display and is equipped with a new Siri assistant, capable of retrieving answers from the internet like ChatGPT and controlling home appliances. It was originally planned to be launched in March 2025 along with the new Siri, but due to software delays, it is now pushed to spring 2026. The device comes in two models:

  • J490: With a speaker base, resembling a HomePod mini with a screen;

  • J491: Can be mounted on the wall, supports FaceTime camera and multi-user identification.

The price is expected to be around $350 (about 2,499 RMB). Apple is researching cost-reduction solutions to lower the price in future models.

Meanwhile, the indoor security camera codenamed J450 is expected to launch by the end of 2025. The more forward-looking desktop robot features a rotatable robotic arm and a 9-inch screen, capable of automatically adjusting the view and engaging in voice interaction, but due to complex motor design and incomplete AI functions, its release has been postponed to 2027.

Both devices use LCD panels provided by Tianma Micro-electronics to reduce manufacturing costs. Analysts believe that Apple is using Vietnam as a new base to accelerate the construction of a smart home ecosystem integrating Siri, AI, and robot technology.
