Video editing application VSCO has officially launched a new set of AI image editing tools, integrating them into a new tab called "AI Lab". This update aims to provide professional photographers with more powerful, non-destructive editing capabilities through the integration of advanced artificial intelligence technology, supporting high-resolution RAW files and precise operations.
The core feature of "AI Lab" is AI-driven object removal, which works similarly to self-developed products from Google and Apple. Users can use a brush, click, or lasso selection tool to select an object in the image, and VSCO will use its "intelligent area detection" technology to replace the removed part with an object that matches the background, achieving background blending, and without affecting the original resolution or color. VSCO claims that compared to some AI removal tools on the market that may leave imperfections, their tool is more accurate and better preserves details, especially suitable for professional photographers who have high requirements for quality.
VSCO CEO Eric Wittman said that the company is committed to introducing AI tools designed to support photographers' outstanding creativity into the community while respecting the art of photography. To achieve these powerful features, VSCO is using the Black Forest Labs' FLUX.1Kontext model for technical support.
In addition, VSCO revealed that it will soon launch another AI feature called Upscale, which claims to increase the resolution of images and sharpen details without affecting detail or composition.
The "AI Lab" feature is currently available in VSCO Pro, which is priced at $12.99 per month or $60 per year on the iOS version of VSCO Studio. Notably, the company does not impose any limits on the number of times users can use the AI Lab feature.
In recent years, VSCO has continuously enhanced its toolset to improve competitiveness. Previously, it launched an AI whiteboard for photographers to collaborate with potential clients, a market to help photographers match clients, and Workspace to assist with managing bookings and schedules. The introduction of AI Lab marks VSCO's further efforts in the field of intelligent editing tools.
