Microsoft has recently officially launched two new AI-powered features in its Photos (Photo) app — Restyle Image (Image Reshaping) and Image Creator (Image Creation). These features are currently available only on Copilot+ computers, aiming to help users edit and generate image content more easily through AI, further expanding the creative capabilities of the photo application.
AI Reshaping: Photos Turn into Artworks in an Instant
The Restyle Image feature allows users to "reshape" the style of photos using AI. Users just need to open a picture in the photo app, click "Edit Image," select the "Reshape Image" option, and then choose from multiple AI preset styles or input custom prompts to generate personalized styles.
Microsoft stated that the AI model can intelligently identify facial areas, and only restructure the background and overall tone artistically, avoiding distortion of facial features. In addition, users can adjust the intensity of AI stylization through the "Creative Level" slider, freely controlling from subtle refinement to complete reshaping.
AI Image Creation: Generate New Scenes with One Sentence
The Image Creator feature is more creative. Users just need to enter a description (such as "future city night view" or "retro wedding set"), and the AI will generate high-quality corresponding images from scratch. Microsoft stated that this feature is suitable for various scenarios such as poster design, event visual arrangements, book covers, helping users complete the process from concept to image in one step.
Both features are based on Microsoft's self-developed multimodal generation model, which combines natural language understanding and image generation capabilities, achieving an intuitive experience of "inputting text → outputting visual content."
Privacy and Security: More Controllable AI Generation
Microsoft emphasized that all processing follows strict privacy protection protocols. When using Restyle Image, the system will not collect or store any face biometric data that can be identified. At the same time, the platform will continuously monitor potential violations and piracy, ensuring content compliance.
Currently, these two features mainly support English prompts, and compatibility with other languages is still being optimized. Users need to be online and log in to a Microsoft account to use them.
The Beginning of a New AI Creative Ecosystem
Microsoft believes that as AI technology becomes more widespread, Photos is evolving from an "image management tool" into an "intelligent creation platform." The launch of Restyle Image and Image Creator provides users with a more inspiring, efficient, and controllable image creation experience, marking another step forward for Microsoft in deeply integrating AI into daily productivity applications.
