[AIbase Report] On October 23 local time, OpenAI, Oracle, and Vantage Data Centers announced that they will build a large data center campus called "Lighthouse" in Port Washington, Wisconsin, USA, as an important part of the global AI infrastructure project "Stargate." The project has an investment of 15 billion US dollars, and plans to build four cutting-edge data centers, providing about 1 gigawatt of computing power, and is expected to be completed by 2028.

The project will create about 4,000 jobs during the construction phase, and after completion, it will provide more than 1,000 long-term employment opportunities. Lighthouse will achieve 100% zero-emission energy supply. Vantage is pushing the development of solar, wind, and battery storage projects in Wisconsin, where 70% of the energy will be supplied to the campus, and the remaining part will benefit local consumers, achieving carbon neutrality through the purchase of renewable energy.

Lighthouse is a continuation of the 4.5 gigawatt AI infrastructure expansion plan launched by OpenAI and Oracle in July this year, aiming to expand the US AI computing infrastructure. The two companies have also partnered with SoftBank Group, Microsoft, and others to advance the "Stargate" plan, planning to build five AI data centers in the US within three years, with an investment exceeding 400 billion US dollars. The total computing capacity is expected to reach 7 gigawatts and eventually expand to 10 gigawatts.

Peter Hoeschele, Vice President of Industrial Computing at OpenAI, said that the project will promote the development of zero-emission energy and boost the local economy, while helping more people benefit from AI technology. Mahesh Thiagarajan, Executive Vice President of Cloud Infrastructure at Oracle, said that Oracle will continue to expand cloud capacity to meet the rapidly growing global demand for artificial intelligence and consolidate the United States' leading position in the AI field.
