OpenAI officially launched the "Company Knowledge" feature for ChatGPT, a groundbreaking innovation that directly responds to enterprise users' calls about data fragmentation.
According to the latest updates, this feature is now available to Business, Enterprise, and Edu plan users first, sparking widespread discussion globally. It marks a significant transformation of ChatGPT from a general chat tool into a deep enterprise assistant, helping teams efficiently integrate internal knowledge scattered across multiple platforms. Core function: intelligent cross-tool retrieval and context integration. "Company Knowledge" is essentially an enterprise knowledge aggregation engine, driven by a GPT-5 version optimized for multi-source analysis.
It allows ChatGPT to seamlessly connect with mainstream work tools such as Slack, Google Drive, SharePoint, GitHub, Gmail, Outlook, HubSpot, Salesforce, Asana, Dropbox, and Box.
Once enabled, users simply need to input natural language queries, and the system can perform real-time search, analysis, and summarization across these platforms, providing highly personalized responses. For example, when preparing for a client meeting, a user could ask, "Summarize customer feedback after the mobile app launch." ChatGPT would not only extract sentiment analysis from Slack discussions but also pull up support tickets, customer quotes, and even suggest follow-up action steps.
All outputs come with precise reference links, ensuring transparency and traceability. This is smarter than traditional search tools because it can handle ambiguous queries, resolve conflicting information (such as differing opinions between teams), and support date filtering, especially suitable for time-sensitive business scenarios. Security and Privacy: Enterprise-Level Protection Without Compromise In terms of data security, OpenAI emphasizes a "zero compromise" principle.
The feature strictly adheres to existing access permissions — users can only see content they are originally authorized to view. Administrators on Enterprise and Edu plans can fully control connected applications, log auditing, communication encryption, SSO (single sign-on), and SCIM (cross-domain identity management) integration, as well as set IP restrictions.
Data will not be used for AI model training, further reducing the risk of leaks. This design directly addresses enterprise pain points and has been seen as a milestone in "trustworthy AI in the workplace." Use Cases: From Daily Collaboration to Strategic Decision-Making This feature is particularly suitable for information-intensive teams:
- Project Management: Scan GitHub TODO lists, Linear tickets, and Slack engineering channels to automatically generate release plans and identify unresolved bugs.
- Customer Insights: Integrate emails, chat records, and CRM data to form comprehensive briefings, supporting quick decision-making.
- Knowledge Sharing: Educational institutions can use it for course material retrieval, while enterprises can accelerate new employee onboarding.
Currently, connectors are being expanded weekly, and this week saw the addition of support for Asana, GitLab Issues, and ClickUp. In the future, OpenAI plans to introduce MCP (Model Context Protocol) custom integrations, allowing developers to build their own plugins. Current Limitations and Future Outlook As a Beta version, "Company Knowledge" requires manual activation for each new conversation, and when enabled, it currently does not support web browsing or image/chart generation — these will be uniformly optimized within a few months.
OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap said this feature "completely changed my workflow," signaling that ChatGPT will become the "central nervous system" of enterprises. A
