Recently, OpenAI announced the removal of the invitation code restrictions for its AI video generation tool Sora2, officially opening it for download in the United States, Canada, Japan, and South Korea. Users can directly obtain the app through the Apple App Store and log in using their ChatGPT account. This move marks the first large-scale expansion of Sora2, especially its first coverage of the Asian market.

OpenAI stated that this release is "time-limited," aimed at testing its server capacity and collecting user feedback, and it is not ruled out to reintroduce the invitation code restrictions in the future. Previously, Sora2 allowed users to generate 30 videos for free per day, but due to a surge in user demand, OpenAI admitted to facing significant cost pressures. According to company data, the GPU resources consumed to generate a 10-second video are equivalent to thousands of ChatGPT queries, with the computational cost of a single video ranging between $0.5 and $2.
To address the resource constraints, OpenAI has launched a $4 "credit pack," allowing users to purchase additional 10 generations, indicating that the company is accelerating its commercialization efforts. In addition, OpenAI plans to build a "Sora economy," where it will charge for the use of copyrighted characters and famous people's appearances in the future, providing a share of revenue to copyright holders. This plan also addresses previous controversies regarding the "default collection" issue.
OpenAI's adjustment reflects the immense pressure on video-level AI models in terms of computing resources and commercial sustainability, while also paving the way for the legalization and monetization of AI-generated content. As global video application scenarios continue to expand, the competition over computing power, copyright, and revenue distribution will further intensify.
