OpenAI's latest AI video app, Sora, which has continued to attract attention in the tech world, was officially launched on the Android platform on November 6. Surprisingly, Sora's download count reached nearly 470,000 on its first day, according to app analytics firm Appfigures, covering installations across all regions where Sora was available. This number not only shows Sora's strong performance on the Android platform but also exceeds its performance on the iOS platform, with a 327% increase in downloads compared to the iOS launch, which had approximately 360,000 downloads on its first day.

It should be noted that Appfigures pointed out that the release conditions for the Android and iOS platforms are not entirely the same, so directly comparing download numbers is not entirely fair. The iOS version of Sora was initially released only in the United States and Canada and used an invitation system, which limited user access. However, on the Android platform, Sora was simultaneously made available in major markets such as the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. These markets removed the invitation code restrictions at the end of October, significantly boosting the first-day downloads.

Sora has received a strong response since its launch. Its iOS version exceeded 1 million downloads in the first week after its release and once topped the free download chart on the US App Store, currently ranking 4th in the iPhone app rankings in the US. The Sora app allows users to generate personalized videos using AI, and it also offers a "Cameos" feature that uses AI to create animated videos for users and their friends. All content is presented in a vertical scrolling format similar to TikTok, making it easy for users to browse and interact.

In the latest data correction, Appfigures also stated that the actual first-day downloads for the iOS version were approximately 110,000, with about 69,300 coming from U.S. users. In comparison, Android users downloaded approximately 296,000 times on the first day, indicating that Sora maintained a high level of user interest even after the initial hype. Additionally, Sora faces competition from Meta AI, whose mobile application recently officially entered the European market, further expanding its short-video AI product lineup.
