On December 1st, ZTE's A-share stock was locked in a limit up at the opening, and its H-shares rose more than 9% during the session, with both stocks hitting three-year highs - the catalyst was the joint release of "Doubao Mobile Assistant" with ByteDance's Doubaobao team.
Different from common "co-branded" phones, this collaboration went directly to the operating system level: the nubia M153 engineering prototype added an independent AI button on the side. Users don't need to unlock or open an app; they can long-press to activate the Doubao large model, completing cross-platform price comparisons, schedule creation, and file searches with just one voice command. The first batch of engineering prototypes were launched on ZTE's official store and sold out within 30 minutes, with secondary market prices already exceeding 40% premium.
On-site demonstrations showed that when users said "Find the cheapest AirPods Pro for me," the Doubao assistant simultaneously called APIs from JD.com, Taobao, and Pinduoduo in the background, returning the lowest tax-inclusive price within 1.8 seconds and supporting one-click payment. If the instruction was vague, such as "Remind me to leave tomorrow morning," the system would automatically combine weather, traffic conditions, and calendar information to generate a departure alarm without requiring additional input.
ZTE Terminal CEO Ni Fei stated in an interview that the AI button will be available across all price segments by 2026, "with the goal of making AI as basic a feature as taking photos." Market analysts believe that the hardware shortcut key combined with system-level access significantly lowers the threshold for using large models. If subsequent OTA updates continue to iterate, ZTE has the potential to return to the top tier of domestic manufacturers through AI differentiation.
However, industry insiders also pointed out that the accuracy of voice recognition in noisy environments, cross-app permission management, and long-term user retention still need verification. Whether ZTE and Doubaobao can convert "early adopter traffic" into sustained sales will be the next key point to watch.
