Recently, Eric Migicovsky, the founder of Pebble smartwatches, announced a new product — the AI smart ring Index01. This ring, priced at $75, is specifically designed for the index finger, aiming to provide a convenient way for users to quickly record notes and ideas by pressing the button on the side of the ring, rather than competing with always-on AI devices.

The AI features of this ring rely on an open-source speech-to-text model running on the user's smartphone. Users must hold down the button on the ring to start recording, which means it cannot secretly record conversations without being noticed. In addition, the ring has some water resistance, allowing it to be worn during showers, handwashing, and rain, but it is not suitable for swimming.
Different from other smart devices on the market, the Index01 is not a fitness tracker and does not have health functions such as heart rate monitoring. Migicovsky emphasized that this ring is designed as an external storage device to solve memory problems. He said that many creative ideas and inspirations can be forgotten quickly if not recorded in time.
The battery life of this ring is impressive, claimed to last for years. Users can record audio up to five minutes long and save it in the ring, then sync it to their phone later. The ring supports over 100 languages and has local storage, making it easy to use when out of Bluetooth range.
Migicovsky also revealed that the ring's button is programmable, allowing users to customize its functions with different press combinations, such as playing music or controlling the phone camera. Additionally, the Index01 is compatible with Pebble's mobile application, offering convenient note-taking and reminder functions.
Currently, Migicovsky has restarted the Pebble project, and his goal is to create a sustainable product starting from profitability. The Index01 ring is now available for pre-order and will increase in price after March 2026. The ring is available in silver, polished gold, and matte black, and comes in various sizes for consumers to choose from.
