OpenAI has officially launched its latest large model series - GPT-5.2, positioned as "the most suitable model for daily professional use." Fidji Simo, head of the company's application division, stated at a media briefing that GPT-5.2 was developed over several months and aims to create more economic value for users.
The GPT-5.2 series includes multiple versions, including Instant, Thinking, and Pro. Compared to the previous generation, GPT-5.1, GPT-5.2 shows significant improvements in tasks such as creating spreadsheets, building presentations, writing code, understanding long texts, and processing images. OpenAI emphasized that the series has higher overall accuracy, especially the Thinking model, which performs particularly well in professional scenarios, making it suitable as a highly reliable intelligent agent.

At the briefing, OpenAI Research Vice President Aidan Clark shared an example, describing the experience of an immunology researcher using GPT-5.2Pro. The researcher asked the model to generate information about key unresolved issues in the immune system, and found that GPT-5.2 outperformed other cutting-edge models in terms of the depth of the questions and the persuasiveness of the arguments.
Additionally, OpenAI's improvements in "AI agent workflows" are very noticeable, aiming to enhance ChatGPT into a more powerful personal assistant. Researcher Max Schwarzer mentioned that the team's vision is for ChatGPT to take over and execute complex tasks, not just answer simple questions.
In terms of enterprise applications, companies such as Notion, Box, Shopify, Harvey, Zoom, and Databricks have already obtained testing permissions a few weeks before the official release, verifying the model's performance in real business scenarios. Compared to GPT-5.1, GPT-5.2 focuses more on practicality and structured output while maintaining a good interactive experience.
Amidst the competitive landscape, OpenAI faces pressure from companies like Google, with competitors' progress in general models and agent systems seen as a challenge to OpenAI's leading position. Fidji Simo stated there is currently no new advertising schedule and reiterated the importance of the "red alert," aiming to focus the company's resources on improving ChatGPT.
GPT-5.2 will be gradually rolled out in ChatGPT, initially available to paying users. OpenAI plans to officially phase out GPT-5.1 after a transition period of about three months. To ensure user experience, OpenAI will adopt a "gradual" deployment approach.
