At the GPT-5.2 briefing on Thursday, Fidji Simo, CEO of OpenAI's Applications division, told reporters that ChatGPT's "Adult Mode" is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2026. This news fulfills previous hints from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman about ChatGPT including adult content.
Simo emphasized that the company wants to prioritize improving age prediction technology before launching this new feature. OpenAI is currently in the early stages of testing its age prediction model, which aims to automatically determine when certain safety measures and content restrictions should be applied to users under 18.
According to Simo, the company has tested the model in some countries and regions to evaluate its ability to identify teenagers "rather than incorrectly identifying adults." OpenAI hopes to ensure the accuracy of this technology before launching the adult feature, to avoid misidentifying adults or failing to effectively protect minors.

OpenAI is not the first AI chatbot to enter this area. Previously, Grok and other chatbots have already provided content unsuitable for viewing at work, and Sam Altman has been openly hinting that ChatGPT will include adult content features. Now, with a specific timeline announced, this promise finally has a clear implementation plan.
The launch of the Adult Mode marks a shift in AI chatbots toward more personalized and niche development, while also raising higher demands on industry content moderation and minor protection mechanisms.
