Google announced on Tuesday that its flagship "cost-effective" Google AI Plus plan has officially expanded to all markets with AI service coverage around the globe, including 35 new countries and regions such as the United States. This move marks a shift in strategy from initially focusing on emerging markets to a full-scale global expansion.

The plan is priced at $7.99 per month in the United States, significantly lowering the threshold compared to the Google AI Pro plan, which costs $20 per month. In emerging markets like India, the price is even more affordable (approximately $4.44 per month).

  • Creative and office tools: Access to Flow AI movie-making tools, as well as deep research and writing assistance from NotebookLM.

  • Storage and sharing: Provides 200GB cloud storage space and supports sharing with up to five family members.

  • Referral for existing users: Existing Google One Premium 2TB users will be automatically upgraded in the coming days, gaining all AI Plus benefits for free.

Strategic Objective: Competing with ChatGPT Go

Google's move aims to convert non-professional users who don't need professional-level features but want advanced AI experiences into paying customers through a low-price strategy.

This action is seen as a direct challenge to OpenAI's ChatGPT Go plan (also $8 per month). Google hopes to cultivate users' AI usage habits in emerging markets and mainstream markets globally by lowering the "first step" entry barrier, thereby gaining an advantage in the long-term AI adoption competition.

To accelerate user acquisition, Google is currently offering a promotional offer: new subscribers can enjoy a 50% discount on the first two months of subscription fees.
