A fierce confrontation has erupted in the AI industry. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, publicly criticized competitor Anthropic on the X platform, accusing them of "clearly false information" in their Super Bowl ads and exposing their long-standing "ambiguous and double-dealing rhetoric."
The clash was triggered by Anthropic's latest promotional video. Although the ad did not directly name OpenAI or ChatGPT, its claim that "Claude's responses are不受广告商影响、无第三方植入" (unaffected by advertisers and free of third-party implants) was widely interpreted as a cold mockery of OpenAI's recent advertising model. In response, Altman firmly stated that OpenAI would never adopt such "stupid" methods for advertising, emphasizing that ads are completely independent from answer content and do not affect the objectivity of AI.
In addition to countering the advertising content, Altman also launched a comprehensive "dimensional attack" on Anthropic from the perspectives of market size and business model. He revealed that the number of users in Texas alone who use ChatGPT for free already exceeds the total user base of Claude across the United States, implying that the two companies are not even on the same level. He criticized Anthropic for its high prices and "authoritarian" approach, claiming that it attempts to control users and interfere with others' business models, while OpenAI is committed to making AI technology accessible to billions of ordinary people for free.
Notably, OpenAI also showcased an advertisement focused on creators during the Super Bowl and announced that the application downloads of its coding assistant tool Codex have exceeded 500,000 since its launch on Monday. Altman's statements were not only aimed at clarifying the advertising controversy but also sought to position OpenAI as a representative of "democratized AI" on the values high ground.

Key points:
🚫 Altman strongly condemns the false advertising: Directly pointing out that Anthropic's Super Bowl promotion contains false content and refuting claims that ads affect the quality of ChatGPT responses.
📊 Massive difference in user scale: Altman claimed that the number of users in just one state, Texas, far exceeds the total number of users nationwide for Claude, mocking Anthropic as a niche product serving only high-spending customers.
⚔️ Conflict over corporate values: OpenAI criticizes Anthropic for attempting to control users and set arbitrary rules, reiterating its commitment to providing free AI services to achieve technological inclusiveness.
