As the May Day Golden Week approaches, the Tencent Huan Yuan team has recently released the ultra-quantized version of its professional translation large model, providing a solid language solution for users planning to travel abroad. This model, named Hy-MT1.5-1.8B-1.25bit, is only 440MB in size and can run smoothly on mobile phones locally.
Ultra-compression technology enables offline direct connection on mobile devices
The model uses advanced quantization technology to compress the original size of over 3GB to just one-eighth of its original size, allowing it to easily reside in the background of ordinary mobile phones. Even in remote scenic spots with no network signal or sudden situations, users can still get instant and high-quality translation services.
The team has launched two options for different models: 2-bit and 1.25-bit. The 1.25-bit version adopts a "fine-grained sparsity" strategy that was accepted by an academic top conference, where three out of every four parameters are stored using 1-bit, ensuring strong translation performance even with minimal size.
Professional-level translation quality and privacy security assurance
Although the model is compact, it demonstrates excellent performance in 33 languages, five dialects, and thousands of translation directions. In various authoritative evaluation benchmarks, its translation accuracy not only surpasses Google Translate but also rivals commercial models with much larger parameter counts.
Since the translation process is completed entirely on the mobile device, users do not need to worry about the collection or upload of personal sensitive information, greatly enhancing privacy security. The project is now fully open source and provides a demo, supporting Android users to experience efficient functions like "background word lookup" without any subscription fees.
