Apple has agreed to pay $250 million to resolve a class-action lawsuit alleging that the company misled millions of iPhone users at the end of 2024 with false claims about the artificial intelligence capabilities of its Siri voice assistant. The plaintiffs argued that the so-called "AI capabilities" advertised by Apple did not exist at the time and remain unfulfilled to this day, possibly requiring two or more years before they are released, thereby boosting iPhone sales.
It was reported that Apple ran a large-scale advertising campaign in 2024 promoting its "enhanced Siri" features. However, shortly after the ads were released, Apple confirmed that these new features would be indefinitely delayed and pulled the related advertisements. The National Advertising Division of the Better Business Bureau, an U.S. advertising regulatory body, also found that Apple had incorrectly implied that its AI-driven Siri features were "available now."
The settlement covers approximately 36 million qualifying devices, including the iPhone 16, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max purchased between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025. Although Apple did not admit any wrongdoing in the settlement, it stated that the company aims to focus on what it does best — delivering the most innovative products and services to its users.
Under the settlement, each eligible consumer will receive $25 per device, with the final amount potentially increasing to $95 depending on the number of applicants. Ryan Clarkson, founder of the law firm Clarkson Law, stated that the firm secured a historic settlement for consumers, ensuring they feel confident and protected when spending their hard-earned money.
The settlement still requires approval from Judge Noel L. Willis of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, with a hearing scheduled for June 17.
