Following ChatGPT and Perplexity, Apple CarPlay has welcomed another major AI player. Recently, Elon Musk's xAI company (now renamed SpaceXAI) officially announced support for the CarPlay framework through an update to its iOS Grok app. This move means that iPhone users can now interact naturally with the Grok model directly through their car's central display while driving.
Under the ecosystem of iOS 26.4, Apple has significantly relaxed restrictions on voice conversation apps. The integration of Grok essentially seamlessly extends the voice assistant capabilities from the phone to the in-car environment. For users who are accustomed to handling information or seeking inspiration during commutes, the car interface now not only displays the recent conversation list but also allows users to start new voice sessions at any time.

To meet the safety requirements of the driving environment, the interaction logic of Grok on CarPlay is completely centered around "voice-first." Developers have made targeted optimizations in detail functions, such as adding a "temporary mute" option, allowing users to pause the conversation without completely closing it; meanwhile, users can also switch between different AI voice packages directly on the car system to get a more personalized auditory experience.

As mainstream AI models gradually "go into cars," the interaction methods of in-vehicle systems are undergoing a transformation from simple command recognition to deep natural language conversations. Through this software and hardware collaboration, drivers no longer need to repeatedly operate their phones, and can obtain and exchange complex information using AI while maintaining driving focus.
