E-commerce and entertainment giant Amazon recently announced a new round of strategic restructuring for its gaming business. By integrating the previously independent Prime Games, Amazon Game Studios, and Luna cloud gaming into a unified organization, Amazon aims to completely break down past departmental barriers and focus more effectively on the world's largest consumer entertainment market.

Major Business Restructuring and Dual-Track Strategy

In the new organizational structure, Amazon has established a clear "dual-track" platform development strategy. Luna is positioned as the core gaming platform, while Amazon Game Studios focuses on content development and publishing. This model is widely regarded as similar to Microsoft Xbox's platform and studio collaboration strategy.

In terms of content positioning, Amazon is stepping away from its traditional focus on hardcore players in Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) games, shifting instead toward more broadly appealing casual and party games. For example, its recent cloud-based party game innovatively integrates generative AI technology and features the famous rapper Snoop Dogg as an AI game referee, allowing users to play easily with just a smartphone as a controller.

Media and Gaming Integration and Ambitions of the 007 Universe

In addition to focusing on lightweight AI party games, Amazon has not abandoned its pursuit of AAA titles. It currently has between 10 to 15 games in development, with nearly 40% being high-budget productions. Executives have clearly stated that the boundary between television and gaming will eventually disappear, and every major film IP must have its own game story. For instance, the newly launched "Tomb Raider" series game and live-action TV series are being developed simultaneously.

More notably, after gaining full creative control over the legendary film IP "James Bond (007)," Amazon is actively planning to build a vast 007 gaming universe. Following the great success of the recently released "007: Quantum of Solace," Amazon is not only negotiating with developers to bring it to the Luna cloud gaming platform but also revealing that all future 007 sequels will be published directly by Amazon Game Studios, thus fully integrating the commercial chain from watching movies, experiencing games, to purchasing merchandise.
