Google's official video provides a detailed explanation of the Android Halo feature, which first appeared at Google I/O in May. Its core function is to enhance the transparency of AI agents running on the phone. After enabling it, a dedicated indicator will appear in the status bar at the top of the screen, allowing users to intuitively check whether AI agents like Gemini are running in the background.
Samir Samat, President of Google Android, introduced that Halo has a dedicated display area in the status bar, serving as a communication window between AI agents and users. Various AI agents can use this area to push task progress and receive user commands, enabling interaction without switching to the AI application.
When AI handles tasks independently, it often requires user involvement in three scenarios: progress reminders, follow-up questions, and result display. Halo precisely meets these communication needs. Google stated that this feature represents a new direction in intelligent computing, enabling smoother and more efficient interactions between users and background AI programs through a system-level interface.
