OpenAI announced the expansion of the ChatGPT parent notification feature, so that parents and guardians with linked accounts will receive alerts when minor users are banned for violating policies on violence threats or cyberbullying.

Previously, OpenAI introduced a parental control feature, allowing parents to link their children's accounts, set usage limits, reduce sensitive content, and send warnings when self-harm risks are detected. After this upgrade, the system will further cover risky behaviors that may harm others.

This feature was developed by OpenAI together with the cyberbullying monitoring organization Moonshot. Moonshot stated that timely notification to parents when serious risks arise helps families intervene early and take measures.

OpenAI's enhanced security mechanisms are also related to controversies over AI use risks. An investigation into a 2025 shooting incident in Canada found that the suspect had used ChatGPT, and OpenAI subsequently committed to strengthening security measures.

Additionally, OpenAI has added a "Learning Mode" to the parental control page, guiding students to think through prompts rather than providing direct answers; for teenagers who use ChatGPT for long periods, the system will also add rest reminders.

As AI assistants enter scenarios such as education, ensuring safe use by minors has become a key issue in the industry. OpenAI is enhancing the safety of AI products through regulatory tools and interaction design.
