According to Bloomberg, NVIDIA is planning to invest $5 billion in Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI), an artificial intelligence laboratory founded by Ilya Sutskever, co-founder of OpenAI and former chief scientist. The two parties have reached a long-term cooperation agreement, further strengthening their layout in the fields of AI computing power and model development.

The collaboration was disclosed on Monday. It is reported that this is NVIDIA's first investment after gaining a deep understanding of SSI's research progress, although the specific financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. According to the agreement, SSI will adopt NVIDIA's flagship GPU hardware on a large scale, and its AI training computing power is expected to increase by an order of magnitude.

According to insiders, before this collaboration, SSI mainly relied on Google's TPU chips for model training. With the addition of NVIDIA GPU resources, the company will gain stronger computing power support for basic model training and the development of safe superintelligence.

SSI was founded by Ilya Sutskever in 2024, with the goal of developing "Safe Superintelligence." In April of last year, the company completed a $2 billion funding round, led by Greenoaks Capital, with Google's parent company Alphabet and NVIDIA participating in the investment. After the funding, the company's valuation reached $32 billion.

This investment also reflects NVIDIA's transition from a simple AI chip supplier to a core investor in the AI ecosystem. As the competition for large models enters a stage of comprehensive competition involving computing power, talent, and infrastructure, strategic partnerships between leading AI laboratories and chip companies are continuously deepening.

As an emerging laboratory that gathers top AI research talents, SSI's development direction has attracted widespread attention in the industry. NVIDIA's increased cooperation in this regard is seen as an important move in its bet on the next generation of artificial intelligence technology routes.
