OpenAI has buried its first browser itself. ChatGPT Atlas will officially stop service on August 9, after which it will no longer push feature updates or fix security vulnerabilities. From its launch on macOS on October 21, 2025, the product has only survived for less than ten months.
The most embarrassing part is that Atlas data will not automatically flow into the new version of ChatGPT. To keep past bookmarks and history records, users have to manually export the data into HTML files and then manually import them into other browsers like Chrome. Worse still, Atlas currently cannot export Cookies, which means users have to log in again to all websites after migration, and there's no escaping the tedious task of re-entering account passwords.
OpenAI made its statement very straightforward in the announcement: after August 9, Atlas will most likely not be able to open any web pages. Moreover, a browser that is no longer maintained will expose security vulnerabilities over time, continuing to use it is like playing with cybersecurity. Therefore, they explicitly advised users not to linger, but to switch early.
